What is Short Breaks
We are commissioned by Dorset County Council to work with Dorset’s Special Schools and SEND bases of mainstream schools to provide after school arts workshops for a period of 10 weeks, led by a professional artist.
We deliver arts based activities during school holidays to provide parents/carers of children with disabilities (learning or physical) in Dorset, a short break outside of school hours, whilst their children engage in a quality activity in a safe environment.
Short Breaks 2016
For Short Breaks 2016 we worked with
- Yewstock School and Archbishop Wake Primary School, delivering drama workshops with Aimee Smith and Aimee Symes
- Abbey Primary, Shaftesbury delivering animation workshops with James Price,
- The Thomas Hardye School and Peter Margerum to deliver ‘Education for Everyone’ group for the last 8 weeks, creating recycled sculptures to brighten up a void between classroom blocks.
Twelve children took part and had a fantastic time, learning new creative skills, making new friendships and gaining in confidence.
To mark the end of the experience they organised a presentation and unveiling ceremony, inviting parents to come and see their work. Headteacher, Mike Foley cut the ribbon, officially unveiling the students work and said that they should be really proud of their amazing work, not only brightening up an otherwise dull space, but creating a lasting legacy for the school.
Super Heroes Workshop
Lorna Rees of Gobbledegook Theatre has also taken her ‘Super Heroes’ workshop into the school settings of Yewstock and Beaucroft Schools for some after school fun
Creative Music Workshops
BSO Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra have delivered some fantastic creative music workshops at Mountjoy School and Westfield Arts College during the summer holidays.
