We want to support Dorset’s Arts and Culture sector through this difficult time. We’re offering our expertise for free to creatives in Dorset to ensure we survive and thrive.

Free One-to-One Support

We are are offering a free, 30-minute one-to-one session to artists, designers and makers in Dorset. We have set this up to help individuals apply for Arts Council England’s emergency funding, but we can also help with other aspects of your career, practice or creative business. Please note, places are limited to 10 per team member and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. We may not be able to have one-to-one sessions with everyone, but we will be able to signpost you to trusted resources (listed below). 

 

Please see below what each team member can help you with:

Sarah James, Chief Executive, has over 20 years’ experience in senior leadership roles in the arts and cultural sector. Sarah has led on creative consultations, strategy and development work with sector peers, the community and stakeholders in positions held at Arts Council England, English Heritage and within local authorities. Sarah’s specialisms lie in:

  • Socially engaged practice
  • Outdoor arts and festivals
  • Charitable and social enterprise business growth and governance
  • Evaluation
  • Fundraising
  • Leadership

Jasmine O’Hare, Marketing Officer,  specialises in marketing for creatives and arts and photography education. She can advise on:

  • Using social media to get your work seen.
  • How to create online education workshops.
  • Signposting to funding, commissions and opportunities.

Rosie Russell, Leadership and Social Impact Lead is an experienced mentor and coach, with 30 years’ experience in the creative sector.  She specialises in:

  • Business planning and modelling.
  • Diversification of income strands.
  • Portfolio building.
  • Making your practice sustainable.
  • Collecting and communicating social impact.

She is committed to collaborative working practices, diversifying organisations and Boards, and doing things differently.  She has a clear understanding of Arts Council strategies (including Let’s Create 2020-2030), and fundraising strategies.

What Next? Dorset

Part of the National What Next? movement, this is a space to share, debate and take action on issues facing the local and national culture sector. It’s open to everyone working in and connected to the creative and culture sector in Dorset. We’re currently holding weekly meeting on Zoom, every Thursday at 2pm for one hour. Join our Facebook group for more information and for the meeting details.

✨Dorset Artists’ Emergency Fund: Apply or Donate✨

b-side has brought together a host of Dorset arts organisations and artists, including the Arts Development Company, to launch a Crowdfunder campaign to raise money to meet urgent short-term financial needs.
The fund is for all Dorset -based artists, including those in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. This is open to (but not limited to) visual artists, musicians, comedians, performers, directors, actors, writers, filmmakers, theatre makers, producers, curators, clowns.
To apply, artists must be aged 18 or over, have a bank account and be unable to pay for essential living costs because of the loss of freelance income. Grants of between £100 and £500 are available.
