Where are the best places to sell art online?
If you are an artist, deciding to sell your art online could be the best choice you’ll ever make. The art market is booming; according to the 2017 Hiscox Online Art Trade Report the online art market sales are up despite slowing global art market. The number of online art buyers that have bought more than a single artwork has increased to 65% in 2017, up from 63% in 2016. This gives the online art market an 8.4% share of the overall art market.
Online galleries can put your work in front of a large audience across the world who are actively looking to buy art. And people ARE buying art online. The main reason is because many reputable online galleries provide curatorial experience, payment protection, promotion skills and guidance for you and the buyer.
However, there is a lot of online galleries only too willing to show your work and try to sell it for a fee without decent marketing activity or quality control so it is a good idea to research all of them; always try to use the platform most suited to your style and artistic practice.
Don’t forget to check out their commission rates too.
Here are some recommendations:

- Degree Art – 60% of sale price to artist + VAT
- RiseArt – (they will next review new artists to showcase in July 2018) – 60% of sale price to artist +VAT (plus 3% payment charges)
