International artist Michael Pinsky has completed the first concept ideas for the ‘Welcome Hub’ brief. The project will make three areas of West Bay a more welcoming and attractive place for local residents and visitors alike.
Pinsky exhibited his concept drawings at a community consultation at the Salt House & Welcome Hub, West Bay on 19th and Sunday 22nd July, which showcased how aspects of West Bay could be developed.
He and the project team, consulted and discussed with approximately 200 people about the proposed designs. Among the participants there were about 40 motorcyclists who use the Welcome Hub on Sunday Meetups. Then around 140 of the participants were residents, first time and repeat visitors.
Dorset Coastal Forum will now evaluate this feedback and it will be part of the agenda for the next design meeting in a few weeks time.
The consultation triggered a lot of discussion. Generally we had a lot of support for the designs and overwhelmingly positive feedback.

This is brilliant, the space will become inclusive to all including those in mobility scooters, in push and wheelchairs, and makes it far more aesthetically pleasing. Well done!
Dorset Coastal Connections Project Officer, Nikki Parker-Goadsby said,
We are really keen to talk to the community and hear views on the proposed designs and concept drawings for these projects. The feedback we received from the events will help influence the final overall designs of the projects.
The work to develop the space will start in the New Year 2019.
Pinsky is part of a cross-disciplinary team of engineers, planners and consultants that will deliver this project. The West Bay work is part of the wider Dorset Coastal Connections portfolio of 18 projects. The portfolio is funded by the Coastal Community Fund and coordinated by the Dorset Coast Forum. The Arts Development Company is working collaboratively with Dorset Coast Forum and the individual project teams.
