We’re working with the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to provide high quality, free, art taster sessions for people living with dementia and their carers. Stepping into Nature is funded by the Big Lottery. It started in Beaminster and Lyme Regis last autumn and the next sessions will take place in Dorchester and Weymouth this October.
If you’d like to try something new, meet friendly people and have fun, then come and join one of our art taster sessions – no previous arts experience needed! We are offering:
- creating large scale drawings
- fiction writing
- book binding
FREE Dementia-friendly art taster sessions this autumn
Come and try drawing, music, pottery, singing, dance and storytelling – no experience or talent necessary!
All the sessions are led by local artists with great reputations who have had dementia-friendly training. Public Health Dorset is evaluating the project as part of research into how the arts can improve wellbeing.
“We’ve had an inspiring day”
Andy Worth from KeeP 106 community radio went along to one of the sessions on creative writing at The Palm House café in Weymouth to record some of the participants work.
Listen to the programme here to find out more about the project and to hear some of the participants reading their own poems about the Dorset countryside and talking about what taking part in the sessions means to them.
