We are thrilled to announce that we have won the competitive tender to continue to deliver Dorset’s arts development service on behalf of Dorset Council (DC).

Our new Service Level Agreement (SLA) covers a five-year period. During this time we will bring to life the newly adopted Dorset Cultural Strategy, which we developed for DC and which was accepted by the council earlier this year.

The strategy sets out the vital role that culture will play in Dorset’s social and economic recovery from the impact of the pandemic. It represents a commitment to supporting the recovery and development of the cultural sector while building a world class cultural offer in Dorset that attracts visitors and connects communities.

Through the Cultural Strategy, we aim to drive positive change and make culture more inclusive, accessible and visible for everyone in Dorset. This will involve working closely with DC, Town and Parish Councils and all cultural organisations, creative practitioners, strategic partners and funders. We continue to connect culture to other sectors, including tourism, education, environment and health to benefit communities and the local economy.

The SLA, which provides the same level of funding as the previous contract, will enable us to provide a strategic service that will support individuals and organisations to thrive, particularly as we emerge from the global pandemic. We will continue to provide targeted advice, guidance, and funding support to strengthen the arts and culture sector.

Cllr Laura Miller, Portfolio Holder for Customer and Community Services at DC, said: “We want our communities to help to shape and feel proud of Dorset’s arts, heritage and cultural offer, so that culture becomes woven into everyday life as an entitlement and not a privilege. We look forward to working with The Arts Development Company to deliver the council’s ambitious Cultural Strategy. Their expertise will help to increase opportunities of securing new investment into Dorset and maximise the value of the council’s own investment.”

We are working on plans to formally launch the strategy early in 2022.
