The Role of Culture in Tourism

Culture plays a significant role in bringing visitors to Dorset and diversifying the groups that holiday in the county.

Despite the pandemic, in 2021 the total visitor-related spend in Dorset was over 1.3 billion. Over 21.9 million trips were taken and almost 10% of all employment in the county is in tourism. (Source: The Economic Impact of Dorset’s Visitor Economy 2021)

We met with two outstanding tourist destinations, The Tank Museum and Nothe Fort, to find out why culture is important to tourism and their venues.
